The Lost Word
by Rev. Greg W. Neteler
(April, 2002)

"Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’." Every statement that we make should affirm Truth or deny what is not. Any statements which we make that contain both Truth and error are from bisha which means evil, unripe and immature in Jesus’ language. They lead to error thinking, sickness and suffering. Do not compromise Truth and let no half-truth find room in your mind and then expression in your life. Let only what is real live in your mind, express in your word and manifest in your life. Let go of what you know is not Truth and watch the lesser things pass away as you make your life a living affirmation of God. To see Truth clearly is spiritual consciousness and in spiritual consciousness you know the Truth that sets you free. Remember that the Truth you know is the Truth you use—all else is theory. Speak words of Truth and feel the Truth in what you speak. What you say shall surely come to pass.

Spiritual teachers in every age have declared their belief in the sacred word, a declaration of Truth so clear that it expressed unbounded creative power. Anyone who knew this sacred word, according to legend, could secure anything he might desire. The sick could be healed, adversity overcome, disaster prevented, life restored and everything gained which would increase the comfort and joy of existence. Unfortunately, the legend states, the word was lost and without it mankind must live through all the challenges that life presents until the word of power is regained

The "lost" word is not a word, nor even a definite statement of Truth. It is the spirit of every word, the soul of every thought and the inner power of every expressed statement. It is the "and God said" of the opening chapter of Genesis: "And God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light." (Genesis 1:3) This word is the creative power of God expressed. John, as he opens his Gospel declares, "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us...". (John 1:14) The Aramaic expression translated into English as the "Word" is miltha which means "mind energy" or "mind essence." It is the creative mind energy which stands behind every Divine Idea. For John, it is the creative energy of Divine Mind expressing itself within mankind as the Christ or God individualized—the fulfillment of Genesis 1:26. "Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness...’."

Jesus was a master in speaking the word. He knew the spirit of every word and the inner power in back of it. He clearly stated, "the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life." It was the spirit and life in his word when he "cried with a loud voice, ‘Lazarus, Come out.’" that raised the dead. And it was that same spirit when he spoke the word that healed the centurion’s servant, fed the multitude and freed the man with an unclean spirit! Can you imagine Jesus speaking a lot of silly nonsense? "I’m sorry, your illness is incurable. Come back when we have more food. Let’s see if I can make you feel better." Instead he spoke the word of power because he felt the spiritual Truth in the divine ideas of life, health and wholeness.

"Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’." Affirm life. Affirm power. Deny anything less, all the idle nonsense we allow to run through the mind. Feel the spirit of life and power so strongly that these ideas become firmly established within you and there is no room for anything less. When you feel the spirit in back of each word of Truth, you find the lost word of the ages.

Charles Fillmore, Unity’s co-founder, said that sound is the dying vibration of a spent force. The power is not in the sound or volume of the spoken word; it is in the mind energy that stands behind the word whether spoken aloud or silently. When Charles Fillmore taught the power of affirmation, he said that we should affirm with vehemence which means "with great force; violent ardor; fervor, as of passion." In other words, we should speak Truth with the force of conviction and with passion. Try this simple experiment. At a time when you are alone and where no one will hear or embarrass you, speak this word: I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. First mumble these words softly aloud and as you do, notice any feelings you have as you speak them. Now speak them again aloud, only this time speak them as one with authority and with great force. It is not necessary to speak with a loud voice but it is important to speak with the energy of great conviction. Did you feel differently after the second time? Try the same experiment silently. Notice that you can speak with energy and authority even when you speak silently. It only requires a centered mind and focused thought.

"And God said,...and it was so" because the creative mind energy was released to form and shape the universe and our world. The word was lost because mankind forgot that the "Word became flesh and dwelt among us" as the same spiritual power in everyone that was demonstrated by Jesus—the power of the Christ. Speak the word with the power and authority of the Christ and you will remake your world, transform your life, and find what was lost.

The sacred word remains lost as long as man continues to look where it cannot be found—outside himself. Seek the spirit within the words you speak; feel the power and life they contain, and what you say shall surely come to pass.
